The Best Comic Book Conventions of the Next Year

Posted by

Comic book conventions are the place to go if you are an avid fan of comic books, pop culture, sci-fi, and fantasy. Or, if you just like to have a really, really fun time!

Where else can you hang out with all your favorite superheroes, anime and literary characters, and meet the people who created them?

Keep reading to find out more about all of the hottest cons.

What are Comic Book Conventions?

Comic books conventions started as gatherings put together by fans of comic books and comic book culture to give out awards, meet other comic book fans and to meet comic book creators.

They have now grown to include mega-events that last for days and include speaker panels, special appearances/photo-ops with top-name celebrities in movies and television, cosplay and costume contests, workshops, and more.

Below we feature some of the best comic cons coming up over the next year.

Chicago Comic-Con

Chicago's next C2E2 will be happening February 28 through March 1, 2020. C2E2 is about more than just comics.

It has a floor celebrating comics, anime, manga, video games, movies, and TV.  Another area referred to as The Block features creatives from the pop culture scene of Downtown Chicago.

Tickets are available for all 3 days or single days. VIP badges will also be available and kids badges will go on sale in the Fall.

Cincinnati Comic Expo

This year's Cincinnati Comic Expo will be held from September 20-22, 2019.

Amanda Conner will be the featured comic creator. Some of the projects she has worked on have been Vampirella, Painkiller Jane, GatecrasherThe Pro, Codename Knockout, Birds of Prey and Terra.

Some of the film and TV guests that will be attending are Brent Spiner, Alan Tudyk, Wil Wheaton, Bernard Hill, Nichelle Nichols, and Eric Vale.

Cleveland Comic-Con

The next Wizard World Cleveland Comic Con is set for March 6-8, 2020. No news is out yet as to who will be their special guests.

Jason Momoa was the special guest in 2019, along with actors from Smallville, Charmed, The Lord of the Rings, Outlander, and more. So you can expect next year's Cleveland Comic-Con to present another great panel of talent.

Atlanta Comic-Con

Pre-sale tickets are available for the Atlanta Comic Con set for July 31 through August 2, 2020, at the Georgia World Congress Center. It's a family-friendly convention where kids under 12 get in for free.

This event is put on by Imaginarium who also produces the Tampa Bay, Indiana, San Francisco, Michigan, and Wisconsin Comic Cons.

San Diego Comic-Con

The Comic-Con International in San Diego (SDCC) is one of the largest annual comic con in the U.S. The next CCI will consist of a preview night on July 22, 2020, and three full days from July 23-26.

The SDCC is attended by over 150,000 people each year and includes over 600 scheduled events.

The Comic-Con has been running annually since 1970 and has grown to include multi-genre entertainment in addition to being a comic book convention.

New York Comic-Con

New York's Comic-Con is coming up on October 3-6, 2019. It is the largest pop culture convention on the east coast.

There are over 100 comic book creators scheduled to appear at the con. Some of them are Aaron Kuden, Alice XZ, Ashley A. Woods, Christopher Uminga, and Clay Mann.

The New York Comic Con is affiliated with C2E2, Emerald City Comic Con and Keystone Comic-Con.

Emerald City Comic-Con

The Emerald City Comic Con (ECCC) takes place in Seattle, Washington and it attracted 98,000 fans to its last con. The next one is scheduled for March 12-15, 2020 at the Washington State Convention Center.

The ECCC hosts the Western Championships of Cosplay which boasted $5,000 in cash and prizes for the winners.

Heroes Convention

The Heroes Convention is a self-proclaimed comics-first event. The next one is June 19-21, 2020 at the Charlotte Convention Center in North Carolina.

The first of this convention happened in 1982. This Heroes Con is very comic-centric as opposed to some of the bigger conventions.

But Heroes Con gets its share of the cosplay action. So feel free to rock your favorite costume and look forward to checking out everyone else's, too.

Megacon

Megacon happens in Orlando, Florida. The next one is scheduled for April 16-19, 2020 at the Orange County Convention Center. On average over 100,000 people attend Megacon.

In addition to its other great attractions, Megacon has sketch duels where professional comic artists compete against each other.

WonderCon Anaheim

WonderCon Anaheim will take place April 10-12, 2020 at the Anaheim Convention Center in California. 34,000 people attended WonderCon in 2019.

In addition to comic books, WonderCon celebrates the work and fans of science fiction and film. It also has an area designated for showing trailers for new films that will be coming out as well as a masquerade competition.

New England Super Megafest Comic-Con

The next New England Super Megafest Comic-Con is slated for November 16-17, 2019. It will be happening at the Sheraton Framington in Framington, Massachusetts.

It features an art show, cosplay events with prizes, a dance, as well as comic book artists. There will also be panels by both fans and guests.

One of the most notable and fun parts about comic book conventions is the people who dress up to show their love of characters from comic books, movies, and television.

Cosplay is a big part of the comic con experience. You never know who you will see walking around. What is cosplay? Cosplay is dressing up as a character from a movie, book, or video games, especially one from the Japanese genres of manga and anime.
